Production & Maintenance

• Harvested at optimal age of 5 years and can be 65' tall and 7" in diameter

• Culms are cut into strands in a cross section fashion

• Treated with borax or synthetic wood sealers for preservation and protection against termites and mold

• Strands are kiln dried and milled in rectangular strips

• Strip are laminated into boards either horizontally or vertically 

  • Horizontal gives wider grain and shows the sulcus stripes​

  • Vertical gives straight and narrow grain

• Because bamboo gives off no deposits to protect against bidegradation, life span is minimal if left untreated

• Treated bamboo lasts 50+ years if protected from direct contact with sun, rain, and dirt

• General cleaning practices such as dusting and wiping with warm water will prevent against staining and discoloration

Environmental Impact

• Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet so new shoots will regrow to full size 3-6 months after harvesting

• No chemicals or pesticides are used during harvest

• Bamboo kun in fibres are naturally anti-bacterial without toxic chemical treatments

• Plants store carbon, and generate vast amounts of oxygen

• Strong roots makes soil more stable which helps to prevent against landslides

• When harvested properly, 10% of every plant can be taken without needing to replant

• Can produce 33,000 feet of building material in 20 years
